On March 14th, 2014, the ASLA San Diego Chapter Stewardship Committee invited design professionals, contractors, City/County agencies and students to participate in a discussion on proper design and maintenance of Bioretention Basins and Swales at the San Diego Mesa College Design Center. Speakers at this event included:
- Jim Kuhlken – Rick Engineering
- Garn Wallace – Wallace Labs
- Craig Kolodge – Filtrexx
- Mike Klaerick – Green Meadow Growers
- Chris Cutler – Steven Smith Landscape, Inc.
The goal of the event was to create an open dialogue between multiple professions regarding the challenges we face in designing and maintaining bioretention basins and swales. During the event, there were a variety of topics discussed along with a question and answer period with many questions. The discussion showed that we need to have more events in the future to discuss these topics in greater detail.
The following PDF is an outline of each speaker’s powerpoint presentation. We will be posting a video of the event in the next couple of weeks for your convenience. If you have questions about future events, please contact Tim Smith at tim@wynn-smith.com.
