It will have two dog parks and a “Bark Bar” catering to dog owners, a children’s garden, community center, performance stage, interactive fountain and underground parking.

This is East Village Green, a 4.1-acre gathering place that downtown San Diegans hope will attract and retain the growing population of singles, newlyweds and young families.

Civic San Diego’s real estate committee recently reviewed the conceptual design by landscape architect James Burnett’s Solana Beach office, and the full board is expected to review the $13 million budget for the first phase next month.

If all goes well, construction drawings would be started in January and construction begun late next year with an opening set in November 2018. The second and third phases could follow, depending on funding.
