Landscape Architect Joy Lyndes, Principal Landscape Architect of Coastal Sage Landscape Architecture (Encinitas), has been elevated to the national ASLA Council of Fellows by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for her exceptional contribution to the profession and society at large.

Lyndes is one of 19 landscape architects nationwide elevated to ASLA Fellow status for their exceptional works, leadership/management, knowledge, and service. Election to the ASLA Council of Fellows is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows. The Fellows will be elevated during a special investiture ceremony later this year. Said Brett Allen, President of ASLA San Diego Chapter, “Joy’s multifaceted career and service to the community and profession, as well as her teaching and mentoring, demonstrate that landscape architects are leaders in solving complex community issues. Her advocacy work reflects her belief that good policy sets standards for good community design and equitable resilient design creates the framework for better futures for our communities.”

In private practice, Lyndes’ firm focuses on designing healthier, more-sustainable communities employing the imperatives of equity, resilience and climate protection.

Lyndes’ work has addressed sea-level rise, coastal ecology, stormwater management, equity, affordable housing, endangered species, and water conservation.

She trains community groups, leads citizen workshops, and mentors professionals and students, sharing her wide range of knowledge of landscape architecture and climate literacy, thereby fostering a new generation of land stewards.

Her leadership positions include serving as the 2020 Chair of the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, the 2020 Government Affairs Liaison for the California Council ASLA, an Encinitas Environmental Commissioner, and leading the organization of the inaugural Cyclovia Encinitas 2020.

Since ASLA-SD’s founding in 1976, 17 ASLA members have been elevated to Fellows, a third now retired.
