The American Society of Landscape Architects, San Diego Chapter, announced their 2014 Design Awards at an awards event— Celebrating the Power of Place—on Dec. 4 at the new Central Library.
These awards are the ultimate recognition of design achievement for firms and projects in the San Diego region, celebrating the innovation and creativity found among the practitioners in San Diego County.
In addition to the traditional awards, two new awards were added this year: the chapter’s first Student Design Awards and Exposition was introduced and the San Diego Stewardship award was presented to Supervisor Ron Roberts.
Roberts has been supervising and managing San Diego’s urban and natural resources in a responsible manner during his professional career. He is an advocate for park and infrastructure projects in particular. He was the driving force behind the new 16-acre waterfront park and is currently working on a cable car that would connect the foot of Sixth Avenue with Balboa Park, achieving John Nolen’s dream of a bay to park link.
Twenty four projects were recognized and can be viewed at our 2014 Awards & Recognition page.
The Awards Jury members were: Bob Cardoza, FASLA, Founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board NUVIS Landscape Architecture, Costa Mesa, CA; Kelly Broughton, FASLA, Director of Development Services, City of Chula Vista; Kathy Garcia, FASLA, City Planning Director, City of Del Mar; Ralph Roesling, Lecturer, Cal Poly Pomona, Principal, Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects, San Diego; Randy Hanna, AIA, Principal, Hanna Gabriel Wells Architects, San Diego.
