DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
Garbini & Garbini Landscape Architecture, Inc. provided the design for landscape improvements for an aging but iconic Mid Century Modern student housing complex located on the campus of UC San Diego.

The site was regraded to removed stairs and allow for a gentle slope on walkways creating a better experience for pedestrians. Large areas of lawn were replaced with non-organic ground cover of rock mulches. One centralized lawn area was introduced and the area regraded to provide for a well-draining passive recreational areas. Landscaped bioswales were proposed along the main path of travel to capture and infiltrate storm water and minimize drainage infrastructure.

The new design provides improved and accessible campus entry points, generous landscaped pathways, areas for passive recreation, and accessible dormitory courtyards that are open and inviting for residents and their guests.

Throughout the site, emphasis was placed on the use of native, resilient, and attractive plant material that tie into adjacent areas of campus and yet give Revelle Campus an identity of its own. Landscaped areas include native multi-species planting as part of the bioswale effort.
